about

This song is dedicated to all my friends from the Kerrville Folk Festival, those that I've met and those that I've yet to meet; and to all the songwriters and poets who have little or nothing to show for their efforts except for the self satisfaction that comes from the expression of their art.

lyrics

Songsmiths and Poets

Copyright 2007 Robert Lindsay Nathan

Here’s to the songwriters
Bless their lovin’ hearts
Getting’ stomped on and broken
Generally torn all apart

Here’s to the balladeers
Bless their lovin’ hearts
Livin’ stories to tell
Spun up in their art

Here’s to the troubadours
Bless their lovin’ hearts
Travelin’ and traipsing
Living lives apart.

Chorus:

Songsmiths all
Forging their wares
Songsmiths call
So much to share
Songsmiths and poets
Lived it then wrote it
We’d never have known it
Save the songsmiths and poets

Bridge:

So here’s to the writers of songs for our tears
Poets and songsmiths, and lone balladeers
Setting our hearts free, releasing our fears
Here’s to those musicians, bending our ears
