about

The title to this song came from a little music venue that I cosponsored in south Austin right after the return of the millennium. The site of the production was an old construction yard that I dubbed "The Enclave". It was kind of hidden from the rest of Austin, and many of the old buildings were occupied by artists that plied their trades. I understand that today they call it "The Tetanus Farm", as a tribute to all the old rusting construction artifacts that are there.

The music was written on the piano, and at the time of the writing, I was thinking of Gato Barbieri's cover of Calos Santana's "Europa". I really wanted to write a song that would tun a good saxophonist loose.

At first my producer (Mark Hallman) was against the idea. Some people just don't like saxophone I guess. But a few weeks after we laid down the pilot tracks, Mark contacts me and says he found a good sax player.

It was a bit of an understatement, Joe Morales pretty much nailed it on the first take. And it's not an easy track , having several key modulations.

Thanks Joe, for surpassing my hopes and expectations on this.

Something in the night
Near the end of space and time it seems

Through this maze of holographic dreams

The love we've saved
Let's spend it all right here
In this Lost Enclave
