about

Jim Mahoney has been sort of a muse for me over the past 20 years. He has lyric credits on several songs that I've published on previously released albums.

He's kind of represents my Dean Moriarty/Neal Cassady character from Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" if was going to write a story about it.

This song is a short version of that unwritten book.

Special thanks to all the friends that came to the studio for the backup vocals. It turned out just like we envisioned.

lyrics

Jim’s Affliction
Robert Lindsay Nathan 2004

D G
He left me a sink full of dirty old dishes
A D
And a six pack of Shiner Bock beer
D G
The times and the brews we had were delicious
A D
A’fore he skee-da-tled from here

He left with a pocket of money at most
And a sad sack of Canyon Lake blues
Bound for the westernmost Florida coast
For some sand buried down in his shoes

G D
Look out whenever he’s comin’ around
A D D7
Doors are left open, shit’s strewn all around
G D
He’s some kind of wonder, he’s some kind of mess
A D
His affliction is known, as severe Jim-bo-ness

He left me a sink full of dirty old dishes

And a sad sack of Canyon Lake blues
E A
While the times and the brews we had were delicious
B E
Now I've got nothin’ to lose.

And though he would pinch me at times for a dime,
B E
Or a bed, or some food, or some drink

I’ll be missing my muse as I rhyme,

These words that are scribed here in ink.

Look out whenever he’s comin’ around

Doors are left open, shit’s strewn all around

He’s some kind of wonder, he’s some kind of mess
